Illuminating Our Journey as Boulder Lighthouse Collective
A two year update on our metamodern collective experiment...
Two years ago this month, Boulder Lighthouse Collective (BLC) was born.
This article is a deep exploration and honest examination of the grace of BLC, the challenges and setbacks we faced along the way, a celebration of who we’ve become, and a wisdom harvest for how other groups can unfold together with a similar structure and flow.
The Dream Came True!
Imagine an intimate group of uniquely skilled humans who are deeply attuned to each other and our unfolding relational tapestry, flowing effortlessly through multidimensional wholeness attending to its various expressions of goodness, beauty and truth.
Imagine this group shapeshifting with self awareness that it is Self-shapeshifting-self as acupuncture points of healing, growing, awakening, relating and creating are caressed by an intimacy that sees its potential as part of its already whole perfection.
Imagine laughing because we’re crying and crying because we’re alive, feeling it all as the eros of Desire herself coming to life as devotional love asking for us to celebrate her through the service of our hearts. This paradoxically co-creates her very existence as that which we’re being created by, a boundless, timeless dance that includes every boundary and all times expressing as these undeniably unique times…times that remind us why we’re so god damn lucky to be alive at all, as All.
The Birth Story
Boulder Lighthouse Collective (BLC) was birthed from the soil of the Constructing Consciousness Gatherings, which I co-founded and stewarded for over two years. C.C. was born out of STAGES International and Pacific Integral, which were both birthed in part from the lineages of Ken Wilber’s Integral Theory as well as Dan Brown’s Mahamudra teachings.
I’ll explore the delicious constellation of lineages that weave together in BLC in-depth below — all this is to say that our collective became a living practice sangha for ways of being which have deep roots and extend wide and far in our broader Liminal Web.
At the first Constructing Consciousness gathering in Sedona, AZ in November of 2023, I befriended a few beautiful humans from Boulder, CO. At the time, I was living in Austin, TX and deeply desiring an integrative practice community where I could explore my developmental growth-edges in the company of place-based rooted friendships. I had literally searched the globe looking for a land and its people whom I could call home, visiting over 50 intentional communities around the globe.
Exhausted and tired of being nomadic, I forced myself to settle down in Austin for six months. I knew almost instantly that it wasn’t the place for me, but at this point I was pretty much hopeless and surrendered to the fact that there’s sadly no place on Earth where I’ll find “my tribe.”
Then a miracle happened. Sitting in Austin in a home that I did not feel at home in, I had a series of calls with one Boulder person after the next who I met through the Constructing Consciousness network. I just knew in my gut they would become close friends. Effortlessly, each person recommended someone else who I should connect with at the end of each call. Within a month, I had over 10 new friends, most of whom I had never met in-person.
“Well, I guess I’m moving to Boulder!” I chuckled to myself. It was so obvious, so clear, so miraculous and yet so simple.
A few weeks before moving, I wrote a manifesto for Boulder Lighthouse Collective which came through like a lightning bolt of a download channeled from soul.
I sent a draft of the vision to my new Boulder connections (some of whom previously knew each other, most of whom did not) and asked them for input. Nobody had any substantial feedback other than: Fuck ya, I’ve been waiting for this. Let’s do it!
Upon arriving in Boulder in March of 2023, I created a Signal group and proposed a long weekend gathering in the mountains. Everyone was onboard.
The purpose of the first gathering was to simply be together in shared space and deepen into intimacy, sensing what wants to happen and if the manifesto that I wrote back in Austin still felt alive. It was quite vulnerable to put the offering out there, having no idea where it would lead yet moving all the way to Boulder just to give it a try, trusting the whispers of soul guiding this journey.
Long story short: we all fell in love, had a blast, and immediately formed plans to meet bi-weekly as a group as well as to schedule a future four-day gathering, which we’d commit to doing once a season.
It worked! It really fucking worked!!
In less than two months, I went from feeling alone, exhausted and surrendered to a life in Austin that I wasn’t fulfilled by to feeling deeply connected to not only 12 new friends but also a cohering collective that was all in for exploring our potential together. I fell instantly in love with Boulder, the mountains, the broader Integral and various conscious communities who live here, and the beautiful homes which magically appeared to house me, as if God was guiding every step of the process in perfect synchronicity.
Flash forward two years to today, we just completed our fifth four-day gathering, which went remarkably well - a true actualization of the original vision that came through back in Austin. The collective is feeling stronger and more cohered than ever before, and it became clear to me that it was time to write this article as a transmission of the learnings, joys, heartbreaks and intimate love that has graced us along the way.
A Meta Pattern
Boulder Lighthouse Collective went through a textbook (nearly cliché) group pattern that is referred to as Forming, Storming, Norming and Performing.
Currently, we’re flying on all cylinders in Performing. But it was a journey to get here! And we all hold the awareness that at any moment we might be entering back into another cycle, particularly as we’re currently “dating” two potential new members to join the collective for our next gathering, which would likely entail a new Forming phase to emerge.
Before I dive into each of the phases we journeyed through thus far, let’s pause to introduce the current constellation of BLC and what makes this group so unique.
The Collective
At first, I was the sole curator who constellated the initial group. Over time, the group intelligence itself could sense who was the right fit, and we operated primarily from a unanimous decision making process when deciding on the membranes of our collective.
Nearly everyone in the original constellation had some basic shared knowledge around the STAGES model of ego development created by Terri O’Fallon. STAGES is not super well known, so it’s somewhat of a miracle that 12 humans who all live in the same town could relate to and from STAGES as a shared map and meaning making model.
Many in the group also express some range of MetAware capacities, which is partly what distinguishes BLC from other developmentally-oriented collectives which may gravitate towards more subtle perspective expressions.
To be clear: BLC is also predominantly a subtle (and concrete) collective, but especially in our last two gatherings (during the Performing phase of our unfolding), it became apparent why having a group that is exploring MetAware territory — or what Dustin DiPerna calls Evolutionary We-space — can be so powerful, distinct and quite unique. More on this later…
The first retreat brought together 12 Boulder locals. The nine millennials of the bunch committed to meeting bi-weekly. Our current constellation includes eight core members.
During the Storming phase of our unfolding (about a year ago), three people left and two new people joined. There were a confluence of factors at play, including challenges with leadership and some interpersonal tensions, which I’ll touch into later.
It could also be said that two of the three who stepped back broadly did so because they wanted the group to be more casual and social with less formal practice and a need for commitment. The third left the group in part after there was a sense that the amount of emotional processing time & energy the person was asking of the group was beyond the resources of the collective and didn’t feel fully aligned with the larger mission.
Two new people joined for our third retreat who were not deeply familiar with the STAGES model, which was a risk to break the original lineage coherence that united us. However, it was clear that the gifts that they did bring and their willingness to explore novel territory with us were immense blessings, and it became an obvious win-win-win.
We’re currently “dating” two new candidates to join the collective for our sixth retreat scheduled for this summer. Both bring a more fiery, cutting and discerning intellect energy that could be a strong complement for our collective, which overall I would say currently dances more in the space of embodied emotionality.
Our Unique Expressions
So, who are we?!
BLC currently includes four men and four women who between us include two naturopath doctors, three licensed therapists, a medicine woman, a death doula, a documentary filmmaker, a spiritual crisis guide, a Kundalini teacher, a nature-based elementary school teacher, several deep practitioners of Buddhist lineages, a licensed psychedelic guide, imaginal realm practitioners, several Burners, an amazing chef, energy workers, a Qigong master, etc.
It’s a pretty fucking rad group of humans with a ton of capacities and a high degree of emotional, psychological, spiritual and embodied maturity. In our best moments, we’re not only a group of individuals with deep integral capacities but also an integrated group that compliments, polarizes and wholes one another (and our collective) in and as one unfolding dynamic dance.

A visionary community weaver who synthesizes the story of our unfolding as a North Star transmission for our collective becoming
A meditation teacher who guides us into uniquely intimate, grounded and expanded states
A cuddle & touch goddess who constantly goes around reminding us, “Guys, we’re all friends!” which animates a joyful recognition of the miracle of relationship
Soulmaking practitioners who guide us into multidimensional imaginal realm explorations
An attachment therapy specialist who helps illuminate subtle energetic chords that weave through the fullness of our relationships
A logistics lover who keeps everyone on track and the train in motion!
This list could go on! The point is that it is in our diversity that our wholeness is recognized, both practically and energetically.
One of the central missions of our collective is to bring out the fullness of each of our unique expressions - not only to blossom our individual unfolding - but also to deepen the range, capacity and dimensionality of our collective being.
This requires DEEP attunement and clear communication (much of which is done without words). There’s also a letting go into the intimacy of vulnerability which informs our souls’ desires and longings. In that process arises clear yet caring boundary setting, which we do from the view of What Is illuminating as the ephemeral emptiness of awareness and the loving fullness of radiant heart. Finally, we embrace the active remembrance of our collective North Star, which lives both as a story we tell and as a shared felt sense of home, which I define as the feeling one has when there’s no place in the entire cosmos you’d rather be than right here, right now.
What I just named in the paragraph above is exquisitely challenging. What’s made it even more interesting is that in our last two gatherings, we had no pre-defined leader nor highly structured game-plan. But what we did have was an ever-deepening faith in each other (and in the source that moves us all), and enough of a shared culture that was cultivated over two years to simply rest as the eros of our collective heart, allowing everything to unfold like a symphonic ballet of creative wholeness.
How did we get here? Let’s take a step back in time to revisit BLC’s Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing phases.
Forming
After our first retreat in Spring of 2023, a core group of nine Boulder locals emerged committed to meeting bi-weekly for in-person practice & play evenings.
Each meeting was rotationally hosted by someone in the group. Generally we ate dinner together, checked in about what was alive in our lives, asked for certain types of support from the group, socialized, played music, had impactful conversations about world events, cuddled, etc.
Additionally, one person would lead a formal practice each session, which ranged from emergent dialogues, to collective prayers, to movement practices, to holding space for someone who was going through a challenging life experience, to guided meditation journeys, etc.
These bi-weekly sessions were always fun, sometimes quite deep, and always deeply important for keeping the group together. They ensured enough in-person connection between the seasonal gatherings, especially as we were first establishing.
In practice, they were much more difficult than it may appear on paper. For one, even though we all live in the Boulder area, we’re actually quite spread out. Three people live over an hour away, three others are 30 minutes out of town, one person is often traveling, and three others had young children at home which made taking multiple hours off in the evenings quite challenging.
Additionally, nearly everyone in the group is what I might call high achieving and are simply super busy, which meant when we came together at 7pm on Thursday, often people were exhausted and just wanted to chill (as opposed to going into a deep practice space).
It took several months for us to find our footing with these bi-weekly gatherings, and eventually, after about 9 months, we decided to pause the bi-weekly structure and opt for more spontaneous meet ups without trying to force whole group attendance.
Tucker’s Shadow
One place where my immaturity as a community leader and facilitator really showed was during this initial Forming phase.
As the sourcekeeper of BLC (who also happens to be an Enneagram One), I had trouble navigating how much control I wanted to wield in the bi-weekly meetups.
I would tell the group that I wanted it to be emergently led by the collective and empower others to step up and hold the active leadership / coordination / facilitation roles. However, I also felt pained when balls would be dropped and things didn’t go as smoothly as they could, and I would feel the impulse to step in and take over the reins, which sometimes was wise and helpful, and other times was coming from a place of fear, judgement and desire to “perfect” what perhaps needed to be messy and experimental in order for the group’s intelligence to really blossom.
In retrospect, I could have more unapologetically held an active leadership role in cohering our bi-weekly meetings instead of outsourcing that energy to others right from the start. However, it was only this past year after completing three six-month facilitation trainings with Geoff Fitch, Venita Ramirez and Spencer Jacobson in which I truly felt empowered enough to facilitate in a formal sense.
In other words, my own lack of experience and maturity showed up in the collective, and while I was sensing a possibility for our group (which is where we got to in the Performing phase), we - meaning me and the collective as a whole - simply needed to grow and evolve in order to get there. And we did!
Forming, continued…
The second seasonal gathering we had in July of 2023 was the first time where I truly felt and trusted that BLC was something special. Prior to this gathering, we were just getting to know each other, dropping into connection and seeing what wants to emerge between us. The potential was palpable, but it was during this July retreat where the fruits of our commitment really seemed to pay dividends.
I created a structure for this retreat which I called Spotlight (a play off the Lighthouse metaphor) which required everyone in the group to lead one full hour of facilitating, guiding or initiating a group experience. This ensured everyone was a co-creator and a follower, and it allowed each person to bring their gifts and essence to the collective which allowed the group to experience more of itself through its distinct parts.

While there wasn’t a specific theme for this second gathering, the Spotlights began to organically unfold in the flavor of shadow work and deeply vulnerable shares. It seemed many in the group were going through a particularly challenging time with romantic separations, vocation changes, spiritual openings, etc. This ended up being such a perfectly timed expression, as we all got to deepen into extremely intimate territory with one another, which created a far stronger and more self-sustaining connection than we may have otherwise.
It was the first sign that the group felt safe enough with itself, as itself, that it could really crack open and move through some deep healing processes which strengthened each individual and the collective alike.
Because of our integral sensibilities, personal healing was also collective healing, which was also Life’s healing. The earth, the spirit realms, the human race, the unseen forces - all of it was often included and woven into our “personal” shadow material - which brought a holonic, multidimensional beauty that held the foundations of an effortless simplicity that comes from attuned hearts learning to love more of themselves as Self birthing selves.
In short, at the end of the second retreat, it was clear we all caught “the Lighthouse bug” - that feeling and deep knowing that we’re up to something delicious and important, and superbly nourishing.
Storming
It’s a weird phenomenon in groups, how often just when things start to get solid and strong, cracks start appearing out of nowhere, and suddenly we’re a lot more vulnerable than we realized.
In November of 2023, just before our third seasonal gathering, dynamics started to get a little wonky.
One of our core members wasn’t able to attend the third gathering due to a scheduling error, which caused a rift. Another member, who had agreed to the head chef role, texted the day of the gathering saying they wouldn’t be able to make it without stating a reason. They ended up coming in the end, but for the whole gathering (even though it went really well in general) things were just a bit off…the vibes were strange. It felt like something was shifting but it wasn’t yet clear how.
The third gathering employed a similar Spotlight structure, though this time I had asked everyone to lead, share, or facilitate something around “our work in the world.”
At the first gathering, we all came together and fell in love. At the second gathering, we all went deep and opened up our vulnerable hearts in beautifully healing ways. For the third gathering, we got to know ourselves as a collective through each individual’s soul calling, dharma, purpose, service expression, deepest joy, etc.
It was perfectly designed to meet the group where we were at and bring out different expressions of our nature!
What also made this retreat unique was that it was held at Metamorpha, the epic home of Miles, Alexa and Ola, who also hosted our fourth and fifth retreats, and has become our collective’s oasis ever since (see video above).
We also had two new beloveds beautifully weave their way into the collective, and we all fell in love with them nearly instantly.
After our third retreat is when the Storming phase reached its full force.
Our bi-weekly evening gatherings were becoming harder and harder to schedule. Two members decided to step back from the collective, as they didn’t feel called to commit to the level of showing up that the group was asking of them. This was heartbreaking for me personally, both because I deeply loved them and because they added so much to the space, particularly bringing humorous playful energy which is something our current constellation could maybe use a bit more of :)
A third person had a lot of emotional material come up for them —and as both the leader of the group who represented certain power dynamics and as someone with complementary core wound patterns, this person and I became like oil & water, which drained the group field.
For the first six months of 2024, BLC was holding on by a thread. The challenges weren’t super dramatic, rather it more felt like there were entangled energies snarling the coherence of our collective field, like we were trying to hike uphill in the mud but kept falling into stickier trenches.
We sought outside counsel from an elder, and our group met multiple times to move through various conflict resolution processes. Ultimately, I sense what most helped was time apart so things could settle and next steps forward could emerge without force.
That’s exactly what happened in the summer of 2024 — the group reached a resolution on intervening steps, including scheduling our next retreat with our newly cohered collective who were committed to giving it one more go.
Norming
Suddenly, it felt like the storm had passed and the sun was beginning to reveal her rays. But there was still some post-storm debris to clean up. Who are we now? Who do we want to be? What was working before that we want to maintain? What’s ready to be composted?
During the Storming phase, I tried and failed to champion our group into creating collective principles that could answer some of the questions above. What I see now, hindsight being 20/20, is that we needed to move through the Storming phase into Norming before agreeing on principles, for there was simply not enough coherence and trust in the field to align on something as core as our guiding tenets.
A big “aha” for me was to allow principles to emerge organically from the collective as opposed to creating them “on my own” and asking others to agree to them. This allows the collective to feel as if we’ve sourced them from an embodied shared experience rather than conforming to the leader’s siloed vision.
We did end up aligning on these Emerging Agreements, which arose in the face of rupture and served as a beacon for our Lighthouse Collective, creating healthy distinctions that prioritized certain ways of showing up and reified our emerging cultural norms.
During the end of the Storming phase, I also did something that felt much needed as the original sourcekeeper and leader of BLC: I took a giant energetic step back and released a lot of the power I was holding both consciously and subconsciously.
In doing so, space for new leadership arose. Suddenly, two of our most introverted and previously reserved members blossomed into holding strong leadership energy, sharing their visions for our fourth gathering which dissolved our Spotlight structure into something more organic and emergent, yet arising from the regenerative soil of our new norms which were beginning to serve as stable ground after the storm.
When our group of eight arrived for our fourth gathering, it was like spring had come and the flowers were blossoming! The entire gathering felt guided by grace and our collective was elevated into a paradigmatic shift that birthed an undeniably higher order state of being.
I kept saying to myself, and our group, “Y’all, we’re doing it! This is it! This is the fully actualized vision that came through in the manifesto when I was living back in Austin! It’s happening!”
The truth is that it was always happening. Every step along the way, every gathering, was so perfect and essential, and all of it was a manifestation of the Lighthouse vision, and yet, it’s simply undeniable that the fourth and fifth gatherings were on another level, or perhaps another tier, of collective beauty.
The fourth gathering, which helped deepen and “normalize” our collective culture, included a lot more ritual and ceremony, a lot more explicit nature connection, a practice our group developed and refined called “Field Work” which basically is deeply attuning to each other and the whole (and each other as the Whole) via a meta-integral-shamanic view that is sourced from the ground of Being and guided by the soul of our collective heart. This may sound like a bunch of esoteric fluff, but similar to a psychedelic journey, when you’re in the experience, you get it, and no words can really suffice.

Performing
By the end of our fourth gathering, we were moving into the Performing phase.
Our fifth gathering, which just ended last week, was a beautiful demonstration of our co-created culture unfolding its magic in a collective flow state that was exquisitely simple yet arising on the foundations of a two year journey and a deep commitment to keep showing up.
As they say in 12 Step programs, “Keep coming back because it works if you work it, so let’s work it 'cause you're worth it.”
Over the past year, I’ve been more actively stepping into formal facilitation work via various communities of practice, BLC being one of them. The irony is that the more competent of a facilitator I became, the more I found myself stepping back and simply “holding the field” as the field, allowing the collective heart to emerge, unfold, dance and illuminate its many expressions, which sometimes included me stepping up, and sometimes it didn’t. The point is, it doesn’t really matter! We were/are all one organism and no one person seemingly held more outsized power or control than the other, which paradoxically allows each person to step in and wield power (which you could really just call wise action) in a given context knowing (intuitively) that it was serving the whole as the Whole.
Let me be clear: I’m not talking about a hippie kumbaya circle where anything goes. It’s almost exactly the opposite of that: a space where the only thing that goes is attuned truth learning to love itself, which somehow when grace interpenetrates with uniquely capable individuals who share a common vision and hold deep, intimate trust with one another, it just works. It’s like magic!
I’ve seen it enough times and in enough contexts to say that it’s real, it’s possible. And it’s not just a fleeting moment or a particularly deep session - it’s the whole thing. Every minute of the past two gatherings have felt exquisitely on-point. Flawless. And not because there weren’t moments of imperfection, but because they were being viewed, individually and collectively, as part of the perfect intelligence guiding our every move.
What’s next?
Our sixth gathering is scheduled for this summer. Two of our core members have moved to other states in the past few months, yet both are committed to traveling back to Boulder for our gatherings, which shows the commitment we all have to one another and our whole.
At our last gathering, the practice of Soulmaking was more explicitly brought into our container. I co-led a Soulmaking Gathering in France this past year with Cheryl Hsu, and it’s been fun to see how the explorations in various gatherings across the network weave and work their way into our worlds.
For me personally, I’ve always viewed Boulder Lighthouse Collective both as a whole being in itself as well as a brick in the larger cathedral of my soul vision, which includes a Lighthouse Collective manifested as a land-based Metamodern Regenerative Village (more on this coming soon). I currently envision this village forming on an island in Maine, where I was born and reborn, and where my physical body feels most at home on this Earth.
BLC, for me, is an exploration and experimentation in community weaving, culture creating and soul making. It’s laying the groundwork while also planting future seeds for a new paradigm of human relating, one that is ancient yet novel, always already here yet evolutionarily emerging now.
Simply put, I want my future kids to be born in the culture of what BLC is developing. Sure, I’m doing this for myself, my friends and perhaps for the larger world - but really I’m doing this for my kids to come. In that way, BLC is a practice ground for me to be a father. To love what is and encourage new ways of being to arise. To attune to the perfection of the souls I’m connecting with while seeing their potential as part of the health and wholeness of the human project, and the animating force of God’s evolutionary desires.
I feel really, really proud of our “life guild” collective. It might seem small in the grand scheme of things, and it is. But it’s also awesome, fun, nourishing, evocative, creative, humbling and delicious! Perhaps most importantly, it’s deeply impacting the people who I love, including myself.
At the end of the day, it’s all about relationship. And relationship is all about love. Love is all about life. And life is all about intimacy. Intimacy is all about vulnerability. And vulnerability is all about death. Death, in the end, brings us home full-circle to relationship.
It’s like this, forever and ever, until it’s not. Then we’ll meet up again around the fire, telling stories about how far we’ve come, and dreaming into where we may travel next.

A Few Practical Notes
Finances: No money was exchanged during our gatherings. We all split the bill for any groceries and housing costs. For gatherings at Metamorpha, we did a half day group work project on the land as a form of reciprocity for using the space.
My time and efforts initiating and organizing BLC were a gift to the community, though several folks helped cover my expenses for some of the earlier gatherings as an offering of gratitude.
A challenge: has been maintaining communication in our group Signal chat when not in-person. Many in our group are either super busy, overwhelmed with messages, and/or aren’t “good texters” (their words not mine). This means that it’s sometimes hard to maintain connection as a collective when not in-person, something that, in an ideal world, I would love to be different.
Public offerings: Something we’ve explored but haven’t yet done is to create a public offering that invites people into our Field Work practice. There’s a lot of potential for this, and I sense this is ready to birth soon!
Community Guide
